Look of The Day -March 21, 2013

First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you reading this for your patience with me. My life has been incredibly busy over the last two weeks and the fact that you are reading this really lets me know how wonderful you truely are!

So for today's Look of The Day, I wanted something soft and feminine, with still a spark of sparkle. As you all know, I love shiny, sparkly things!  I took out my Avon 12 in 1 palette, which I haven't used in forver and instantly became inspired by the pastel hues that have a touch of shimmer. For this look I used the darker gold for my inner eye, the purple for the eyelid, pinkish hue for the crease and the lighter gold for my brow highlight. These colours worked seamlessly together and blended fantastically.

For my lower lash line, I wanted to bring something sultry to this look, so I used the smokey blue colour.  It brought the perfext amount of colour and darkness to the look,  without overpowering the top lid colours or making me look like I haven't slept in years.

I finished off this look with Urban Decay's 24/7 Liquid Liner in Gunmetal and two coats of Avon Super Shock mascara. To tie in the whole look,  I extended the bottom lid blue colour to the end of my eyeliner on the outside of my eye,  which gave a little bit of an exotic twist.

I will be doing a pictorial on this and several other looks over the weekend. If you have any looks you would like to see a pictorial for,  comment here with the look or under that blog!

Look of The Day - March 8, 2013

I started something when I began playing with brighter and bolder looks...I absolutely love it! I always looked at bold looks with awe and admiration, and now that I am beginning to create them, the world is a more fierce place! Well around my house anyways!

Today's look of the day featured Eye Kandii Cosmetics colours of Ocean Blue and Stark Black. I fell is love with Ocean Blue as soon as I saw it, and have found a way to incorporate it into almost every look I can!!

I did a basic smokey look with a bold blue feature, but as this was my first time doing a smokey look with a complete black eyeshadow I was a bit nervous. I absolutely love the way this look turned out!!!

Look of The Day -March 7, 2013

In an attempt to try some thing new and expand my colour horizons, I sat down this morning with two colours I have never used before. With Eye Kandii Cosmetics colours in Cellini Red and Stark Black, I set out to create something different.

I very much like to create glamorous, everyday looks. Something that I can wear to work and not get crazy looks or "the talk". But seeing how amazing and unique the looks are getting these days, I want to build my reputation as a dynamic artist who can so anything and everything a person could imagine. So this is the beginning of that!

I started off this look with the Cellini Red covering my entire lid, not up to the brow bone. I found this is an extremely rich colour which looks almost more pink in some lights than red. I used a slant angle brush and started lining my eyelid with the Stark Black. I carried the black to the outer edge of the red colour and started a cut crease line. Instead of keeping the line defined,  I blended it to the top of the red,  making the look less severe.

I finished this look with black liquid liner and two coats of Avon Supershock mascara. I also used the Cellini Red shade on my lips,  once again showing the versatility of these amazing products.

I hope to create more daring and fantasy filled looks in the future and would like to thank all of my amazing fans who keep me inspired!

Look of The Day -March 6, 2013

One of the new products that I purchased this weekend was the Sephora Pin Up Show No. 13. I was super excited to try our these colours, as I love sultry, sexy looks.

One thing I have always found with Sephora eyeshadows is that they are always highly pigmented. My first palette that I explored the makeup with was from Sephora, and the colours opened up my love and passion for makeup. And the colours in this palette do not disappoint!

I used Sparkling Purple for the base colour of this look. Although it says it is purple and looks quite red,  the actual pigment is more of a coppery brown. Still gorgeous,  just not what I was expecting.

I added Intense Pink around the outer lid and blended it with the base. I found that the pink added an unexpected shimmer that really brightened up the look.

The obvious choice for a highlighter was Silver, and it's sparkle gave dimension and made the base colour look amazingly smouldery!  (I don't think that is an actual word, but it definately should be!) I finished off with liquid liner by e.l.f. and two coats of Avon Supershock mascara.

One thing I tried with this look is pairing it with a deep, sexy lip. I am not as experienced with lips as I am with eyes, so it is an area I am becoming more confident in. I used e.l.f. lip paint in Berry and topped it with a clear lip gloss.

To me, this is an awesome date night look, definately made to get the attention that all of us women deserve! Pairing this with a little black dress and some heels, you have a surefire combination to turn some heads!

Shopping in the Bright Lights

This past weekend, I had a conference for my "real" job in Edmonton, so I got to spend the whole weekend (Thursday-Sunday) situated in a very challenging position. As much as the conference was important and informative, the nagging feeling of what is lying out in the cosmetics stores just waiting for me to go and browse!

I grew up in a small town outside of the city, and spent a few years living right in Edmonton. Five years ago, I moved to Lac La Biche, which is approximately 2.5 hours away. Growing up, I remember that "going to the city" was a special outing and we would only go to "the big mall" (aka West Edmonton Mall) on very special occasions. After I lived in Edmonton for a few years, my mindset changed and I avoided going to WEM for any reason at all. It wasn't until Sephora opened that I started to visit again.

After moving to LLB, and having two children, trips to go shopping for expensive cosmetics pretty much came to a halt. Between school, soccer, work, family, a little bit of friends and maintaining a home, trips to Edmonton were becoming fewer and faster, more of an "in and out" trip then one for browsing.

Back to this weekend, I had some time to burn. And the conference was only 10 minutes from WEM. And there was Sephora, MAC, and a billion other stores to go check out. Finally, a chance to go do some browsing came and I was gone like the wind! Approaching the stores, I was almost nervous, because I remembered how Sephora used to be almost intimidating, with colours, scents, sounds and products that used to make my head spin!
Maybe I worked myself up to much, or maybe I exaggerated my past experiences slightly, but Sephora wasn't overwhelming, much less intimidating. I felt completely at home with the brands and products, and knew exactly what I was looking for. I was able to find the products I wanted and find a few things to try, paid and left. After I was finished with my purchases, I found myself feeling almost disappointed. I wanted the rush, getting wound up in the excitement and having an experience, instead of just...well...shopping.

I am not sure if maybe it was an off day, or maybe I am becoming a "grown up" but I am learning that shopping sure wasn't what it used to be!

Look of the day February 27, 2013

Sorry this post is a little bit late!  After a long day of work and then a few hours of overtime,  I was beat when I got home!  I was very excited about my look yesterday though and it came out exactly how I wanted!
I wanted to try some silhouette work with my liner to practice making clean lines and I wanted to try something really fun. So I decided to head south and do an island theme look. I used Eye Kandii colours in Shimmering Yellow, Pixie Blue, Ocean Blue and Jealousy.
I am heading off to the bright lights of the big city this weekend for some work, some play,  and hopefully a little shopping. My wish list is a new set of brushes and maybe a new palette, and some crazy colours of liquid liner. What is on your makeup wishlist?

Look of The Day - February 26, 2013

Unfortunately,  I have no computer to write my blog today,  so I am trying it with my phone!  My apologies if it doesn't look like my usual posts!

I think that so far my favorite colour from Eye Kandii Cosmetics is Gold 'n' Chocolate.  It is beautiful,  full of shimmer and extremely versatile.  This is one colour that I would suggest (and will be) to buy in a full size jar.

I wanted to show the shimmer and shine of this colour, in an opposite look from one I did earlier. I featured the Gold 'n' Chocolate in an ocean inspired look,  with Grannysmith Apples and Jealousy.

I paired those beautiful colours with a shimmery aqua on my bottom lash, light pink blush and lips.

You may have noticed that I don't often post a full face picture. Through this journey, my confidence with my abilities and my self esteem have grown with leaps and bounds. I would just like to take a quick second to thank all of my supporters for their amazing words of encouragement and uplifting advice. It is because of you that I have had the nerve and drive to follow through with this exciting adventure!

Look of The Day - February 22, 2013

Usually, on Fridays, I like to do something I call "Funky Fridays" with my looks. Since I went all out with my Rainbow look yesterday, I decided to showcase the glamorous side of Eye Kandii Cosmetics. I used Blackberry Sorbet, Dark Raspberry and Gold 'n' Chocolate to create a look I would call Royalty.
Samples of Gold 'n' Chocolate, Dark Raspberry and Blackberry Sorbet.

I found these colours naturally complemented each other, and the two purple shades were perfect for blending together. The shimmer and shine that with these colours are beautiful and glamorous. All these colours are multifunctional, easily being used for natural and bold looks.

One thing I absolutely love about Eye Kandii Products is the wearability and endurance. The photo of my eyes on the bottom (my eyes open) was taken 14 hours after applying the makeup. As you can see, the colours are still as bright and vibrant as when they were first applied. I do use primer, but I swatched the colours on my arm this morning to see how they would last without primer, and they stood up to a full day of work, kids and all the other things us busy mom's have to do daily!

I hope that you are thinking about ordering some of Eye Kandii's amazing products, and you are still on the fence, I will have another look and review tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by!

Look of The Day - February 21, 2013

Today I got to play with some amazing product and I couldn't be more happy with the results! I recieved my samples from Eye Kandii Cosmetics and I was so anxious to begin experimenting with the amazing pigments! For the look I did today, I used the colours Shimmering Yellow, Lime Aid, Grannysmith Apples, Navajo, and Pixie Blue. It seems like a lot of colours to use for one look, but I was honestly just too excited to only use 2 or 3 colours.

Colours used for this Look of The Day!

These colours are are super pigmented with a nice glittery shine to them. The colour Navajo is more of a matte colour compared to the Pixie Blue, but it still is beautiful. My favorites are Pixie Blue and Grannysmith Apples. If you haven't noticed, I LOVE sparkle and bright colours. These two shades fit my preferences and I can see myself using them again and again in different looks. The same is for all the shades that I tried today.

This is by far, my new favorite look of mine. I find that Eye Kandii is really easy to work with and blend, although as with any loose powder eyeshadows, they can get a little messy so clean up is a must! The shimmer and sparkle is hard to catch on a camera, so I recommend to every one to order some samples (or full sizes like I will be doing in the very near future) to find what colours suit your looks and preferences.

I will be trying out some more colours tomorrow from this amazing Canadian company, and I encourage all of you to visit the Eye Kandii Cosmetics website. You will find the owner more than helpful, knowledgable and easy to work with to find the perfect products for you! She has an extensive list of products including makeup, accessories, clothing and everything else a beauty junkie like myself could ask for!

Look of the Day - February 20, 2013

Today was an exciting day! I started this morning wanting some simplistic beauty. I tried a nude eye with double gold and black liners. I am seriously in love with this gold liner!

This is a simple, glamorous look that really works with every eye color. Very versatile, this look also goes from day to night with no problems. The pop of gold sparkle really brightens the look and makes it pop!

This afternoon I received my samples from Eye Kandii Cosmetics, an indie company from British Columbia, Canada. I am so excited to start sampling these amazing colours and being creative! It is my son's "special day" at school, so I am thinking full out rainbow! What is the most out of this world creative look that you would like to see?

Look of the Day - February 19, 2013

I woke up this morning with a fresh demeanor and a need to try something new. As I was looking over my makeup, I figured instead of putting something new on, I would leave something out.

The thing is, I am seriously addicted to black eyeliner. I never, EVER, go without it. It is one of those things, like your cell phone. You just can't feel complete without it.

So, I thought to myself, this is it. I am going to do it...I am going to not wear any eyeliner. I was playing around with my Sephora palette and thinking it is a good day for something a little more natural, not quite nude, but a good day to leaving the purples and green behind. I really wanted to show off how you can still make a look pop without the black.

After I got my browns blended and my golds glittering, I saw something peeking out of my jar of liners. Something fun and sparkly, yet totally within my look, my new e.l.f. gold liquid liner. This was perfect. I didn't have to betray my idea of going liner-less, but still have something a little fun, a little pop, and definitely a little sparkle!

Let me know what you think about going with out the black. What is something that you would like to try?

First Blog Ever.

So, very recently, I decided that it might be a good first step in growing my business in the makeup industry, would be creating a blog. So here it is! I hope that anyone reading this will be patient and kind, since this is something that is both personal and close to my heart. I have amazing friends and family who are supporting me in this adventure, so here it goes!

I guess a good place to start is the beginning. While I was growing up, I was not the hair and makeup kind of girl. I was an extremely busy teenager with little time or patience for beauty products. Fast forward ten years, and I visited a Sephora store in Calgary with my boss on a business trip. I found a palette with 78 colours and new found affinity for makeup.

I bough some brushes and was on my way. I started playing around with colour combinations and thought I was getting pretty good with shading, blending and colourful creations! I found that there are tons of Make Up Artists (MUA's) and beauty companies, independent and global alike, that post contests, giveaways, and opportunities to showcase talent. I finally got the nerve to enter one and post my looks online.

This was the first look I posted online. Even though I had horribly bushy eyebrows, which isn't the end of the world, I am still proud of this look. It was my first time entering any contests and I came in second in a "likes based" contest. This gave me huge confidence boost, and I started trying something new everyday, and posting them to my Facebook page and Instagram. I received tons of support from family and friends, and even a few of them have asked me to do their make up for important events.

This link will take you to my Facebook album of daily looks.

So now I decided how to expand my reach past my Local family and friends, and hopefully grow my name into something. Right now, I am not sure exactly what that is or where it will head, but I am extremely excited about where this road could take me. Welcome to Deeper Than Skin Beauty, a place where all women can realize the potential of their inner and outer, beautiful selves.
